Skoda Rapid- Fabia Sedan Launch In India Around October 2011

Posted: 25 Apr 2011 10:45 AM PDT

Skoda recently turned a lot of heads with the 2011 Skoda Fabia but the best is yet to come as the manufacturer believes in injecting more competition into the sedan segment with the Skoda Fabia sedan. Also speculated as Skoda Rapid, the car is targeted at the emerging market leaders such as Volkswagen Vento and Fiat Linea.

The launch of the same is scheduled for Diwali this year and as per the details surfacing the internet the car will definitely do some wonders. The Rapid shares most of its mechanical components with the Vento as the platform on which it is built is an iteration of Vento's platform. In fact even the engine remains same which is a 1.6 Liter MPFI petrol and CRDI diesel both developing 105 BHP of maximum power.

But since the positions of the brands in the market is a concern, the manufacturer will price the car somewhere below the Vento and is also expected to trim down some of the features. As per sources, to shake the market the brand also plans to launch an affordable version of the Rapid which will priced very close to Maruti Suzuki SX4.

The Rapid's design cues have been taken from Skoda Vision D concept recently showcased at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show and sports wider front grille, bold lines, sharper features etc. So in short the excitement and thrill is going to get increased by the addition of this car and like us, all others are now eagerly waiting for it.

Volkswagen India To Launch Small Car In India Below Rs. 4 Lakh Price Tag

Posted: 25 Apr 2011 06:30 AM PDT

Volkswagen has done tremendous growth in sales in India after the launch of their popular premium hatchback Volkswagen Polo in India. The sedan based on the same small car, the Volkswagen Vento has been doing good in its price segment too. Now to capture the largest small car segment in India, which is the small cars priced below Rs. 4 Lakh, Volkswagen is working on its small fuel efficient car for India which will be smaller than the Polo. The Volkswagen Small car will be based on the concept car Volkswagen Up. Earlier there were rumors of Skoda developing a small car for India based on the VW Up Concept, but that seems unlikely now.

Previously also there have been such reports on the Volkswagen small car for India from various sources, but this time, the news has come from a reputed media organization source. The new small car will have up to 75% localization compared to about 65% in case of VW Polo. Also with the new CKD rates, it makes sense to have higher levels of localization to be more cost competitive.

The car is expected to be featured at the International Auto Expo 2012 in Delhi and will be launched in the year 2012 in India. The price of the car will be close to Rs. 3.5 Lakhs and it will compete head on with the Maruti Alto K10, Chevrolet Spark, Chevrolet Beat and other cars priced between Rs. 3 to Rs. 5 Lakhs price segment.

Logan Renamed To Mahindra Verito- Compact Sedan Launch By 2011 End In India

Posted: 25 Apr 2011 05:57 AM PDT

Mahindra and Mahindra has withdrawn from the joint venture with Renault about one year back. Together, as Mahindra Renault, the JV launched the low cost sedan Mahindra Renault Logan in India which has not done any magical numbers in sales. After the Joint venture ended, Mahindra retained the Logan with itself and got the rights to sell it in India with the Mahindra badge. M&M has today officially announced the new name for the compact sedan- Mahindra Verito.

The Mahindra Verito will undergo some major cosmetic changes on the exteriors, especially the dimensions. As per the previous spy-shots and reports from the automobile sphere, the new model 2011 of Logan, the Verito will loose some length to get under 4 meters length to be taxed under the small car category in India and avail the cost benefits of the small cars. The Verito may give a tough competition to compact sedans like Tata Indigo CS, upcoming Maruti Swift Dzire 2012 (which is also expected to be smaller than 4m), and other budget sedans in this segment.

The Compact Sedan maybe priced very competitively, as low as Sub-Rs. 5 Lakhs for the base variant. Mahindra and Mahindra will bring out more details later this year near the launch of the Verito. Toyota Corolla Altis 2011 New Model With 7 Speed Super CVT-I Automatic Transmissions

Posted: 25 Apr 2011 04:18 AM PDT

Toyota Corolla Altis 2011 new model which is due for its launch in May 2011 comes with minor cosmetic changes and a major change in the automatic transmission technology. The minor cosmetic changes in the Corolla Altis 2011 will be the new front grille design, new front bumper and headlamp cluster. The tail lamps will also be refreshed on the new model. Overall the cosmetic makeover is going to be minor.

The major makeover happens in the drive-train of the new Altis 2011. The new Altis gets the Toyota Super CVT-I (intelligent CVT automatic transmission). The engine will be the same as the present 1.4 Litre CRDI Diesel engine of the Toyota Corolla Altis Diesel and 1.8 Litre VVTI MPFI Petrol engine of the Altis Petrol.

What Is New In Altis 7 Speed Super CVT-i Transmission?

The Super CVT-I 7 speed automatic transmission of the Corolla Altis 2011 varies in functionality from the conventional 4-speed torque converter based automatic transmission gearbox you find in the conventional corolla automatic.

The ideal CVT system works on infinite gear ratios which vary continuously over wide range and give a low loss transmission performance. The conventional automatic with fluid based torque converter transmission causes some losses, so its not very fuel efficient. However the CVT may also cause some practical problems and slip in due to the nature of the transmission mechanism. To overcome the disadvantages of these two system, Toyota has developed a 7-Speed CVT-I transmission which is not the ideal implementation of the CVT, but it makes use of 7 gears controlled on which the gear shift is intelligently controlled by a control system to keep the engine RPM of the car in the optimum range for superior fuel efficiency and power response of the car.

Below is a small video which shows the comparison of the new Super CVT-I with the conventional 4-gear automatic transmission of Corolla:

We hope to get our hands on the new Corolla soon, we will bring you detailed feedback and review as we get to drive the new car. Till then stay tuned by signing up for our free email newsletter and liking out Facebook Page.
