Posted: 13 May 2011 05:13 AM PDT

Hyundai has been clocking good sales with its Hyundai i10 which is one of the finest petrol cars in its price segment, however, in the segment lower than Hyundai i10, Hyundai seems to be loosing its grip to the Maruti Alto K10 and Maruti Alto 800 CC. Hyundai Santro, which is the cheapest car from Hyundai in India at an ex-showroom price of the base variant being around Rs. 2.9 lakh misses to even close to the sales number of the closest competition Alto. The Hyundai 800 CC car, aka Hyundai HA which is expected to debut in India around the end of 2011 or early 2012 will change the equation. The car will be aggressively priced in a range which is very competitive the world's largest selling car (not only in India, Alto is the largest selling small car of the world), Maruti Alto.   Not only the pricing of the small car, but also the presence matters a lot in the Indian markets. To keep up with this challenge, Hyundai will open about 1000 new dealerships in rural parts of India which brings most of the small cars customers for the India automobile market. With the trust and [...]

Honda City Diesel Launch In India In 2013- Is It Too Late?

Posted: 13 May 2011 01:11 AM PDT

Honda SIEL India is worried about the fierce competition to Honda City from the refreshed sedans in its segment offering better engines, features and more value for money. The recent report on Honda City sales affected by Maruti SX4 Diesel and Volkswagen Vento clearly indicates that Honda need to work on it. Better late then never, Honda has acknowledged that it need to bring in the Diesel variant for its most popular sedan in India, the Honda City. Honda City Diesel will be powered by an all new engine which will be nearly 1.5 Litre in displacement. The engine is still under the development stage and may take up to two years to take final shape. Since the existing diesel engines of Honda are not at par with the latest CRDI diesel engines in terms of performance and emission, so Honda has decided to develop better engines to power its diesel cars for future years. As per an official statement from Jnaneswar Sen, senior vice-president (sales & marketing) at Honda SIEL We are developing a diesel engine in Japan to power City. It could take us more than two years. The rapid dieselization of the market has happened only in [...]

Maruti Swift Diesel 2011 New Model Will Give Better Pick-up

Posted: 13 May 2011 12:41 AM PDT

Talking in pure layman terms, Maruti Swift 2011 new model which is due for launch anytime now will have a better CRDI diesel engine response because of the tweaking done to the existing engine. The Fiat Multijet-Diesel  1.3 Litre engine which is used in the present model of Maruti Swift Diesel deliver the peak torque of 190Nm at about 2000 RPM. With the new Swift 2011, the engine has been re-tuned to deliver the peak torque of 190 Nm at even lower RPM of 1750, which means lesser turbo-lag and better pickup. I have driven the old Swift Diesel and the pickup in the first gear is not impressive, but is very punchy in second gear, which is because of the turbo-lag only. So talking in plain English, without trying to confuse you, the new Diesel Swift 2011 features better pickup (acceleration) in lower gears compared to the old one. This will mean lesser gear shifts needed in congested city traffic and less frustration on busy roads. We will bring you detailed road test review as soon as we get our hands on the new Swift. Till then you can stay tuned by liking our Facebook page or signing up [...]
